DELTA PI SORORITY

The History of Delta Pi

Originally a little sister program of the AEΠ fraternity at York University, Delta Pi sorority was founded on November 2, 1989 on a road trip to Eastern Michigan University. Although we have become a local sorority, we are affiliated with AEΠ at York, which is signified by the “Π” in our name. Delta Pi Sorority is a historically Jewish sorority, and although we now consist of members of varying faiths we still maintain our roots through events such as Shabbat dinners, holiday parties, and learning sessions.

Sisterhood

The underlying glue of Delta Pi is sisterhood. According to the Random House dictionary, sisterhood can be defined as an organization of women with a common interest, as for social, charitable, business, or political purposes OR congenial relationship or companionship among women; mutual female esteem, concern, support, etc.
In our membership are women who are proud to call each other not only friends, but sisters. We can rely on each other for help and companionship through almost anything, like a family outside the traditional family unit.

Philanthropy

An important aspect of our heritage is philanthropy. We are actively involved each and every year in raising funds and awareness for cancer research. Our hard work contributes to many different charities and causes close to our hearts. Some include Ve’ahavta, the annual CIBC Run for the Cure, Make a Child Smile card campaign, and crayons making for local Toronto Shelters. As well, we often go as a group to other sorority and fraternity fundraisers in order to support their causes.

Our two annual events, Sweetest Sin Party and Live Auction, both benefit The Princess Margret Hospital and breast cancer research specifically. Overall, we have raised well over $26,000 in our years together. Several doves hang on the Princess Margret Hospital Wall of Hope in the main entrance showing our contribution.

We could not do it without your help and we appreciate all of our supporters in our quest to aid in finding a cure. Become a member of our Facebook group online to get details about all of our upcoming charity events and find our ways in which you can help.
